Day 1
Evening arrival, with a hearty home cooked meal at Tuckamore Lodge. After dinner get settled in then meet Barb and her staff who will introduce you to the week's activities.
Day 2
Travel by boat through eastern Hare Bay to view an ecological reserve where seabirds nest. Along the way, enjoy a feast of blue mussels, which you'll pick from the icy shoals. See whales, icebergs and walk along the rugged shores.
Journey along the meanders of the majestic Salmon River by canoe. Encounter moose grazing on lily pads on the shores of quiet lakes. Paddle by loons as their forlorn cries echo in the timber on the hillside and watch bald eagles soar out of sight.
Day 3
Drive to Conche, passing moose on the roadside, and then board an authentic fishing vessel skippered by an Irish Newfoundlander. He'll take you to Grey Islands for a fantastic day of whale watching and iceberg viewing. You'll visit a seabird colony teeming with puffins, murres and kittiwakes, a combination, which attracts a family of bald eagles. When you're tired of this spectacle, journey on to watch grey seals lounge on sun baked boulders.
Day 4
In the morning, hike to a fossil site to view the wildlife of the past. Ancient marine organisms are preserved in limestone bedrock jutting out of a shrubby meadow. Watch moose traverse the grounds of our ancient ancestors. In the evening, sit in a tree stand and watch black bears, foxes and birds visit a treat of molasses and bread.
Alternatively, travel to the west side of Hare Bay to an abandoned fishing village. Along the way, watch for caribou on the barren headlands and majestic bald eagles which frequent the beaches, looking for the day's meal.
